Neuro-Linguistic Psychotherapy (NLP)

What is it?

Neuro-Linguistic Psychotherapy (NLP) is a clinical offshoot of  Dr John Grinder’s New Code Neuro-Linguistic Programming. Neuro Linguistic Programming uses powerful scientifically gained knowledge of how human beings learn, process and filter information using language.

By identifying and changing negative and troublesome language patterns, I’m able to work with you to change or differently control behaviours, emotions, or the state of one’s physical wellbeing.

How does it work?

Neuro Linguistic Programming relies on language, and how it affects how we think and respond. The very process of converting experience into language requires that we condense, distort, and summarise how we perceive the world. In NLP we know that each person has a unique style of learning, perceiving and responding to the world.

For example, how do you know that a pleasant memory is pleasant? How do you know when to feel scared or happy? How do you know that you like or dislike something? How do you learn to feel stressed in certain conditions?

NLP offers understanding as to how people think, learn, behave and change and offers a flexible approach which brings about deep, positive and long lasting change.

Is it safe?

Yes, it is completely safe. NLP is a conversational activity, very similar to counselling. As always, you are always in control and I work within strict ethical boundaries set by both the Neuro-Linguistic Psychotherapy & Counselling Association (NLPtCA) and the  British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP).

Is it effective?

Yes, NLP is very effective. It is a thorough and precise way of working through a problem, finding and installing the solution and setting congruent and achievable goals for the future. In particular, I find it is very effective for dealing with bulimia nervosa and anorexia nervosa. For the best results, I choose to use NLP alongside counselling and CBT, rather than in place of them.
